Embedded Software Developer

Cambridge, Remote, UK

The Role

The role is responsible for developing the embedded software/firmware that will power the next generation of the company’s products, as well as customisation of current systems to support customer needs. The role reports into the Hardware Team Lead.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement software of embedded devices and systems from requirements to production and commercial deployment.
  • Design, develop, code, test, and debug system software.
  • Review code and design.
  • Analyse and enhance efficiency, stability, and scalability of system resources.
  • Integrate and validate new product designs.
  • Support software QA and optimize I/O performance.
  • Provide postproduction support.
  • Interface with hardware design and development.
  • Assess third party and open-source software.
  • Ensure that the Company’s Quality standard (9001) and other compliance standards including Information Security (27001) are continually maintained and adhered to.

Essential

  • Proven experience in embedded software engineering or similar role.
  • BS degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
  • Proven experience with development and troubleshooting on embedded targets.
  • Good programming experience in C or C++.
  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer review.
  • Excellent knowledge of OS coding techniques.
  • Knowledge of different IP protocols, interfaces, and hardware subsystems.
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills.
  • Team player.
  • Good time-management skills.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
