Hardware Team Lead

Cambridge, Remote, UK

The Role

The Hardware Team Lead will be responsible for leading a small team of design engineers that make up the Hardware Team. Managing the day-to-day operations, the Hardware Team Lead will work closely with Supply Chain, Product Management, and Product Engineering, including the Project Engineering Delivery Manager and Product Manager. This role will help drive the development of our product as it provides the checks and balances to ensure we are technically sound and assess how well our IoT and hardware performs in the live environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Efficient management of the team to meet development deadlines
  • Ensure quality process procedures are followed correctly
  • Maintenance of the CAD software and other supporting software required by the team
  • Managing product qualification and approvals. Includes supporting related external audits, e.g., UL, NSF if necessary
  • Maintenance of the production test systems
  • Organisation and control of the local laboratory and materials in line with safety obligations
  • Maintenance of the calibration process for Checkit devices
  • Provide inspirational and motivational leadership to the team with clear and unambiguous communications
  • Development of the team's skills set, ensuring essential knowledge is maintained and up to date
  • Correct management of resource levels, ensuring the team is sufficiently utilised

 

You

You are a strong, effective leader who can deliver reliable and consistent results while identifying and driving initiatives, which will make the business work smarter. You will have good knowledge of at least one of the disciplines within the team and be hands-on when required.

Essential

  • Experience in product development in a commercial environment
  • Experience in managing the activities of a team of engineers and technicians
  • Experience with regulatory qualification and the use of certification bodies, e.g., UL, CSA, NSF
  • Understanding of mechanical, electronic, and firmware design.
  • Understanding of basic production processes: purchasing, quality control, stock control, production systems, production test
  • Knowledge of MRP systems would be an advantage
  • Drawing office support – checking and approving changes of mechanical drawings
  • Good organisation skills, with an attention to detail
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Flexibility to be involved in a variety of roles

 

Desirable

  • Experience of Cognidox or other digital document management systems
  • Experience in working and liaising with 3rd party manufacturing companies.
  • Exposure to plastic moulding design would be an advantage
  • Circuit design, analysis, and documentation
